Yup mine’s is also a 20mm T-track, most off the shelf ones are Imperial and not metric. It would be ok if you could adjust the width of the slider, as you can on some after market ones, but alas no and there is a significant amount of slack in the travel. As you say I think I will have to build my own.
Apart from this its a good band saw.
22 August 2013 at 7:56 pm #16894I must say I’m quite jealous, given that I’m going to be working on a small patio for at least the next year. Good job making such a nice shop. I hope my future will have a shop even half as nice in its future as well.

On closer inspection of the Record-Power line, the bandsaws appear to be the same (or extremely similar) machines as the Rikon brand here in the states. I would guess they come from the same OEM factory in Asia. The Rikon site claims that they use a 3/8″ x 3/4″ T-track, but custom aspects of these saws are most likely present.
I love bandsaws. I do not use mine that often, but I would not like to be without one. My lowly Delta/Rockwell 14″ cast-iron saw has a small motor and only 6″ of resaw capacity. Works well enough, but I may upgrade at some point so I can mill logs and bookmatch panels without too much fuss.

How useful do you find the bandsaw are you able to saw timber to size that is square that only takes minimal time with a hand plane to remove the saw marks?22 August 2013 at 9:48 pm #16912Thanks for all the comments!
@kiyoshigawa I’m very lucky – it’s a real luxury. I’m in the fortunate position of having the space to build something like this in the garden. I work from home as a programmer and as the house has only two bedrooms it was always the plan to build a garden office. Since getting into working wood I figured I’d get something bigger and use it as a ‘shop as well. The difference in price between what I was originally thinking of and the biggest we could get without needing planning permission wasn’t actually that much. It’s not huge (3x5m external dimensions) but it’s a light, warm building.
@paul-sellers @rroselavy Don’t give me ideas! I’m already spending most of my time in here!
@rroselavy You’re right about it being an OEM. Weirdly, the BS450 isn’t listed on the Record Power website – it only goes up to the BS400. I contacted them before originally bidding on the saw and asked why it’s not there and they weren’t sure. However, they sent me a manual for it and it’s from a company called Bauer Maschinenbau, which is likely the original manufacturer. I don’t know if this applies to all RP band saws or just the BS450 (which is an HBS450 according to the manual) though.
@daveg It’s incredibly useful. I’m still getting to grips with it, experimenting with different blades and techniques, but I cut all the components for the coffee table on it from large pieces of oak without any issue. They can be quite a faff to get set up properly but once you’ve got it sorted, and have two square reference faces on your board, you can run as much timber through as you need without a problem. With the right blade, you only need a few passes with a plane to remove the saw marks.George.
Loving the cabin. I also have one from the same place (I think). It’s only 4m x 3m (with a section removed so the the door sits under a canopy in the 4×3 footprint), but it’s really nice. We’ve just got the keys to our new house, so the woodwork adventure begins in ernest in the next few weeks.
The biggest decision I currently have to make is, what do I use as my woodwork shop. We have a 7m x 2m garage and the log cabin (that we have to move). There is more floor space in the garage, but it’s not as light and its pretty narrow. The log cabin on the other hand won’t have quite as stable a base (compared to the concrete floor in the garage). I also need to consider the safe storage of 11 bikes, 2 kayaks, a large stack of camper gear and a number of power and mechanic tools. I was originally going to use the garage as a workshop, because it’s connected to the house, but now I’m wondering about using the log cabin, having seen how good George’s looks.
