9 September 2015 at 10:14 pm #130249Thanks everyone! Now for some side tables that match the bookcase and coffee table 😉
8 September 2015 at 6:17 pm #130180I have been making progress on the coffee table. Here is a pic so far. Still have to finish the top and drawers. I was able to talk my wife out of the doors. I can always add them later if it becomes an issue but I really like the open areas.

18 April 2015 at 5:17 pm #126558Thanks for replies everyone. I prefer the open one but my wife wants the doors to store clutter away. Good point about the doors opening into the couch, I was debating putting the doors on the opposite side or have doors on both sides. I will look into the sliding doors on a track, that could work too.
28 August 2014 at 8:23 pm #63021Thanks guys! I have some smaller vintage panel saws filed rip but they struggle with thicker woods and when breaking down rough lumber. So this should work well for that. The handle is based on a Wheeler-Madden and Clemson thumb hole rip pattern.
Going to start my next project this weekend so lots of lumber to break down!
18 August 2014 at 6:14 pm #61417Hey Joe,
I had some 4/4 rough stock but mostly “4/4” surfaced 2 sides stock. The 4/4 rough I was able to get 2 out of 1 board from some of it. Had to cut it to rough width and length first so I didn’t have to take much off to get it flat and smooth.
I was not able to do so with the surfaced stuff so I had a bunch of waste (shown in the pic above). Maybe I can use it as some thin paneling or drawer bottoms on another project.

18 August 2014 at 4:04 pm #61410Here are a couple progress pics of the back panels that may be helpful. I wish I took more…
Here is a pic showing some of the shavings from the plow plane (probably not even half way through!):

I did re-saw the cherry boards to get them down to 3/8″ you see a stack of panels ready for T&G on one side and a stack of re-saw waste on the other (right side). I used a BS for re-sawing.

and once T&G were cut, lining them up to make sure it looks nice (get grain and color to match) and will fit in the frame (had to trim down some panels).

18 August 2014 at 4:33 am #61389Cut it myself. I used the LV small plow plane with T&G attachment. I enjoyed it. When I finished I was ankle deep in long curly cherry wood shavings, hahahaaha….
28 July 2014 at 4:28 pm #59837Thanks for the kind words everyone! It was a really fun build. There were not really any problems to watch out for other than it is big and can be difficult to move around, clamp, bang into stuff, etc. I did use liquid hide glue for the back. I was real worried about getting all those T&G panels in there before the glue would set up so I used liquid hide glue to give a longer open time and if I messed up I could reverse it. I practiced a couple times and it went smoothly though.
16 June 2014 at 4:11 am #58556The back panel boards are 3/8″. I think I will go with 3/16″. Made some test boards and it looked like that depth will work well.
