I have had the same problem. I found that it was a Chiropractic problem for me. When the nerves in my back where pinched. The the small delicate movements with the chisel can cause your hands to cramp. Also check and make sure you are not having a death grip on your chisel.

20 June 2019 at 12:05 am #582710I would like to put my two cents in. I heard someone say that measurements are just lines on stick. When I understood that I found specific measurements pointless. That said, because the imperial system is based on dividing by two it is much easier for me to find center points. But I also use a story stick for starting a project after watching Bob Rozaieski’s video. I find it easier to visualize were my project fits in the real world. I only really basic use it for height and width but he shows how you can basically design your whole project on it. I personally find that to abstract. I like drawing for that and then take my ratios off that when I get to building.
I think wood working is a personal thing so listen to everyone then do what works for you. Just remember woodworking has been done long before any form of rule was developed so all systems or none, all work.
