Hi @drphobus,
Sorry I missed your message. We don’t have any plans to bring back credits or anything similar. We found that a disproportionate amount of time was being dedicated to handling the credits system. It took quite a bit of technical development and maintenance and then quite a bit of time answering questions and helping customers to understand and use the system.
A while back we removed the system for new users and while we understand that it isn’t perfect for everyone we are planning to go forward with a greatly simplified system that just allows paid users to watch paid videos and free users to watch free videos. Anything more complex just takes time away from developing new ideas and bringing new features to the website.
Sorry to disappoint but please bear in mind we are a very small team working to make our niche of hand tool woodworking instruction the best we can and we have to maintain a certain level of focus to give that our best shot.
@rakfa, feel free to get in touch via the contact page and we will see how we can help you out with the remaining episodes.Best,
Joseph
13 August 2019 at 9:46 am #598769Hello!
Sorry about the navigation issues. We planned a total overhaul of the site and at the last minute realised that some existing functionality would be lost. Now we are stuck between two different systems while we give some free users time check their account before we continue the update.
That means we can fix it but not until 30th August. We may be able to fix the issue earlier but rest assured we are aware of the issue and will fix it as soon as we can.
Regarding speed, the site should be much faster now than it was in June. We won’t leave it where it is though. It will be getting faster over the coming weeks and months.
Best regards,
Joseph Sellers
18 April 2019 at 8:37 am #556238We are having some issues with the software we use for subscriptions and renewals. We are working to make it work seamlessly rather than requiring manual intervention to make it work. In the meantime however it has caused disruption for a few of you. Sorry about the site issues.
Most users haven’t been affected but those of you who have please let us know via the contact form and we will get it sorted out.
@rlennon as requested, we have cancelled and given you a full refund. Please let us know if we can help any further.
@lucas we have continued the discussion via email and it looks like everything is sorted out now.22 May 2018 at 3:25 pm #548027Hi everyone,
Yes, we implemented some changes yesterday which seem to have broken the site. I guess we missed the issues in the tests we ran on the staging site.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Things appear to be fixed now.
@timhunt the issues you are reporting are unrelated. Because they relate to your account we can deal with that better via email. Can you get in touch via the contact page so we can help?Thank you all for your patience!
16 June 2017 at 11:31 am #312979Hi @mikesmith,
Some changes in our business mean that we now have to charge VAT to our UK customers.
We have to pay VAT at 20% on all our UK income from subscriptions.
We didn’t want to change the price for existing members so this only applies to new signups. This explains why @cragglerock hasn’t seen a price change.
Our price in USD has stayed the same at $15, but recent currency fluctuations mean that this is now roughly equivalent to our UK price of £12.
We have no planned increases for customers who currently have £10 subscriptions but if they cancel and sign up at a later date they will pay the increased price.
Best,
Joseph
15 April 2016 at 7:57 am #136429Hi everyone,
We hit a variety of unexpected delays in freight shipping, customs and the DVD disc creation process so we a really sorry we are behind our goal of getting everything shipped early April.
We have everything sorted out now and all orders will be shipped out within the next few business days.
Some orders have already been sent out. All of our non-US orders (and possibly some of the US orders) will be sent out today. The rest of the US orders will be sent Monday or, at the very latest, Tuesday next week.
Thanks for bearing with us. We have learned a lot through this process and we are really looking forward to everyone getting their hands on the book.
19 January 2016 at 7:34 pm #134005Hi guys,
Yeah, I am not sure that the user registration information is that useful for anyone. I have added a snippet of code this evening that stops user registrations from being saved to the site activity page. So, in future this information won’t be shown.
Hopefully this will mean the activity page is less ‘clogged’.
Best,
Joseph
22 December 2015 at 6:48 pm #133346Hi guys,
Yeah, we are well behind schedule on the book. The good news is that the book is now complete. We are doing a final round of checking and review and the book will go to press in January. The final availability depends on the printers schedule but we should be able to give a fixed date for availability soon. Here is some text from the flap of the dust jacket:
In the internet age, producing a book is not a particularly efficient way of dispersing information. That said, there is something so simple and enjoyable about picking up a book, owning it, and enjoying it for years to come. Books preserve information in a way that no other medium can. This book is about legacy.
We can’t say that and then come out with a book that is represents anything less than our very best efforts.
Thank you all for your patience!
14 September 2015 at 2:20 pm #130425That is weird, sorry for reporting the problem. I have fixed it now but I am not sure what went wrong. I have reported it to the author of the problematic code so we can fix it properly soon.
Best,
Joseph
10 July 2015 at 8:40 am #128391Hi @silenthill,
We use vimeo.com to host our video. They have a global network to deliver the videos but it is still possible that they were having some issues. We haven’t noticed any long term issues though.
Best,
Joseph Sellers
22 June 2015 at 2:55 pm #127942Sorry about this guys.
We are looking at a design refresh pretty soon so we will certainly bear this in mind when we do. I think the problem is that some of the pages are pretty resource intensive. We will look at ways to reduce this in the near future.
Best,
Joseph
20 April 2015 at 12:05 pm #126579I live in Oxford which isn’t far from Swindon. I would be happy to have a coffee with you sometime if you come to Oxford.
17 April 2015 at 11:06 am #126539Hi @j1mmy, @jrfinkel is right, our videos on this site are all hosted by vimeo.com. They have given us some advice when users have problems with streaming the videos. Here is what they say:
- Try letting the video buffer (http://bit.ly/1cdnPJL) before you view it.
- Close other browser tabs and windows. This can make a huge difference!
- Make sure you have either the latest version of Flash (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/) running on your computer
- Switch to another browser to see if that helps.
I hope something there will help.
