Just to be sure, after raising the burr you are finishing with 1-2 light pulls on the flat side to remove that burr, correct? I like to raise a progressively finer burr as I switch stones, removing it after each. I haven’t seen what you are describing either, but I do feel that undue pressure on the strop with honing compound at the finish puts a slightly convex finished edge on my blades. Probably a good thing but I think that edge means there is slightly more steel to remove when its next time to sharpen on the diamond stones.
Even if you didn’t remove the burr I suspect it would break off on the first planing strokes but my OCD would never allow me to do that 🙂
Not sure what car you have but I too don’t have a truck or purpose built vehicle to transport my lumber. But I do have a four door car with rear seats that fold. I bought a couple of padded blankets like movers use and I just keep them in the trunk. By wrapping the lumber I don’t have to worry about it cutting my leather seats. I can carry 7 foot pieces this way if I overhang the center console. The place I buy lumber will cut longer pieces so as long as I have a cut list in mind it works fine. I have got HD to cut plywood down for me but I’m not sure if they will cut other wood?
Now learning how to better select my hardwood is still an ongoing process!

Your till looks great. May I ask if the bottom shelf is glued only or did you dowel or screw it on or otherwise reinforce it? My wife is involved with a local theater group and they get a souvenir mug from each production. I was thinking of making a variation of this wall unit to display her mugs but I wasn’t sure if the bottom shelf would be strong enough gluing into end grain like that. I am pretty new to this and would welcome your opinion. Of course the mugs aren’t THAT heavy however I would feel terrible if any got broke.

For me the choice was easier as I am new to woodworking in general not migrating from machine to hand. I would love to have a bandsaw and may yet get one but for now I thought the frame saw kerfing plane combo would be good to try. I’m not doing this for production and need the exercise anyway (grin). I havent got it built yet as I just got the kit. If any are interested it is on sale right now. Tom has many videos on the making and shaping of the tools. Bad Axe Toolworks
