It keeps evolving as I build it… my mind keeps racing and as I work on it and continue watching videos I get more and more ideas. Rounded over the tenons, chamfered the legs, drilled for the draw bores will be gluing up the frame soon.

11 July 2017 at 6:45 pm #313652Well, one thing I know about the condition of big business because my wife was an executive with a large US corporation is that they have pared down their workforces so far to increase their earnings (with no regard for the people who got then there) that each employee has way more work than they can handle. One way my wife dealt with this was to ignore all but the most urgent and visible issues and she figured if an issue was important enough it would eventually get escalated. Unfortunately I fear the business world really doesn’t care about their customers anymore.
21 June 2017 at 4:24 pm #313105It would be nice to get a great deal on some hardwood, but the reality here in Southern Oregon, USA is that Douglas fir is everywhere the least costly wood, and all the hardwoods suppliers are very expensive and have limited stock. So, after many great bits of input I am ready to proceed with Douglas fir, then I will use the cedar for something else.
Regarding the hardwoods, is there anyone near me who may know where I might have better luck finding a good selection of hardwoods without paying an arm and a leg?Thank you for all the input,

19 June 2017 at 10:31 pm #313062yeah, I noticed the twist remaining too, but wondered if it looked differently from his side.
19 June 2017 at 4:22 pm #313051Thanks for posting that video. I will attempt this method. It looks very effective and relatively simple. Being that I am terribly out of shape this may keep me from collapsing after just one board! =o)
16 June 2017 at 5:51 pm #313009Okay. Thanks so much for the good feedback, all of you! I will save the cedar for cabinets and such and get me some Doug Fir at Home Depot for the bench. At first I was excited about the cedar, then I had my misgivings and I am glad I reached out for advice. =o)
15 June 2017 at 7:11 pm #312955After purchase I started having misgivings and recalled some warning I vaguely remember hearing about cedar being hard on planes, so I was wondering if there were any who had tried to use cedar and what I may expect.
26 April 2015 at 7:27 am #126738To complete what I have read… when you boil the wood in polyehylene glycol, it replaces the water in the wood’s cells, so there will be no shrinkage due to drying later.
26 April 2015 at 7:25 am #126737I have head that you can boil manzanita in polyehtylene glycol to prevent cell shrinkage, which causes cracking. So perhaps the wax is that?
26 April 2015 at 7:14 am #126736Love the ideas on how to measure your hand angle before making the handle. Thanks.
26 April 2015 at 7:03 am #126735I read something online about taking a bend out of an old handsaw. As I remember the article said the old saws were made with high quality spring steel so you could simply pour boiling water over the blade to restore the original flatness. Haven’t tried it, but if you do, please report on the result, and good luck.
