It is a matter of taste for a small box like that or even a jewelry box. I suggest you do 2 of the boxes, one one way and the other the other way and see what you prefer.
7 August 2017 at 12:20 pm #314356Can you talk a little more on how you did the dovetail splines? Specifically, how you cut the open for the spline then matched the spline to the opening. Thanks,
2 August 2017 at 11:57 am #314250You should be able to put a short bolt and nut in where the pin was….Good idea here….
18 July 2017 at 11:56 am #313794Personally, I like the triangle tipped model that has 2 bevels on the same side and is flat on the back. It allows me to mark on the right and left of where I need to mark.
9 July 2017 at 11:56 am #313609One thing you can do is put all equipment on mobile bases. Move them around as needed.
22 May 2017 at 11:58 am #312162Outstanding and great use of recycling. Just curious as to why you didn’t utilize the scrolled part of the salvaged wood into the legs of the stool?
15 May 2017 at 2:05 pm #311979I assume your “sanding sealer” is shellac? If so, what is the humidity in your shed? Shellac can turn whiteish in high humidity. That is what happens when you set a wet glass on a side table that has been finished with shellac and when you lift the glass, you can see a white ring where the glass was. Usually the whiteish will disappear when you let the table top dry or in your case, take your wall unit to a low humidity area.
13 May 2017 at 11:53 am #311954Id go with a poly urethane or a brushing laqure to resist the high humidity.
26 April 2017 at 1:33 pm #311422Make it bigger than you think you need and have plenty of windows for natural light.
20 April 2017 at 11:56 am #311327I don’t think there is a way to slow down PVA. Your better option for a complicated glue up, and one that I use is a liquid hyde glue. Lots of advantages that have been discussed previously but a great option is Old Brown Glue. Very good “open” time. Easy clean up….
18 April 2017 at 1:56 pm #311170Not sure where you live, but see if there is a woodworking/woodturning Guild near you. Can’t beat live, personal and free instruction.
8 April 2017 at 11:59 am #310938You mentioned you are using “sanding sealer”. From my understanding of shellac, sanding sealer is a very thinned out version.
To get a more durable and hard shellac finish, you may need several more layers or go with a 2 or 3 pound cut for your final layers.
20 March 2017 at 12:25 pm #310320Depending on how much money you have and where you live? If you are looking for a starter set or may not going to use them daily, you can’t beat Harbor Freight.
11 March 2017 at 11:59 am #310034Seems very complicated for a picture frame. What were the problems you were having with the mitered/spline frame? Maybe we can help.
