My aprons are 35mm thick and the leg recesses I made them 15mm deep.
If your aprons cupped and twisted so bad it’s because wood was not dry enough.23 July 2018 at 8:58 am #549553My top is 40cm (15.7in) wide plus the tool well which is another 16cm (6.2in).
The total length is 155cm (5′) but I was constrained in space. It’s OK though, I’d say 5′ is really the minimum.17 July 2018 at 5:43 pm #549475I think one is in the making, Paul started filming workbench improvements.
I added a drawer to my workbench after making the bench. It’s on one side but the principle is the same if you want to add one where Paul has.
See my workbench post in this forum, I added some pictures of the drawer I made. It slides on two rails where I cut a rebate. This way the drawer won’t wobble. I cut the drawer hole with a jigsaw and refined with chisel, rasp and file.7 July 2018 at 12:20 pm #549174I am planning to add a second drawer between the vise and the right leg, like the one Paul has. I added the small one first as it was easier to add without putting the bench upside down like I imagine I’ll need to do for the other drawer.
I have a saw hanger as well, it’s very useful not only for tenon saws but also for panel or rip saws. I went for a folding IKEA towel hook, as sometimes I need to plane long boards and this sits less than flush of the vise jaw when folded closed, so it’s not in the middle. Works good so far.
