Dear Sven,
Thanks for your comments. As you suggested I have checked while it was clamped initially and saw that while it is flush, it is not flat! (Checked with winding sticks) Also thanks you for your detailed sketch, and kitchen top photo! Lovely work by the way. What i did yesterday, i think solved my problem. I reclamped everything again, but NOT from the one edge – moving to the other. As Benoit suggested i clamped the middle first, then slowly moved to both ends and surprisingly saw that the discrepancy of 1,5cm was minimized to 0,5cm! However the top is very minimally stepped/not flush, but i think that this can be eliminated when i come to plane the laminated piece anyway (i think), and i think this way i will be planing/taking a lot less off in the end of the process.
So…. thanks very much Benoit, William and Sven!!!!
Harvey, thanks for your reply. I have checked the slot and all is normal. However now that i removed the blade plus chipbreaker, i advanced and retracted the adjuster nut to see how the yoke moves without the blade and it still moves to the one side so i really think its the threaded rod.
Hi friends,
I alternated all of the beams as suggested by Phil and clamped them (not squeeze just by hand) and apart from one that was twisted they all came together!
I’ll definitely take that twist out, lightly take out the high spots as shown by Paul in his video and then i think its going to be ok for glue up just as Rick did and if there is any bow left i guess it wont be much.
Thanks so much guys!
Merry Christmas!!!
TassosThanks for your comments Diego,
The design came from a foot rest i saw at work (no dovetails or turnbuttons of course) just made out of glued/screwed together Melamine planks (Melamini – in Greek) (if i got that translation right – basically its compressed dense chip-board like wood with a shiny finish). And yes, construction of a “Paul Sellers” Workbench is definately happening in the near future!
Will definately post that!!!…
Thanks again
