Hi Julio!
I live/work in New York City. Woodworking is NOT a popular or easy hobby in NYC based on limited access to decent used or new tools. That said, Gramercy Tools – Brooklyn has a great selection of new tools though I’ve never been personally as I find all my second hand tools in thde suburbs at garage sales. I doubt the Brooklyn flea market will be a constructive use of your limited time other than enjoying the experience.
Good luck!
I hope you enjoy your visit.
Cheers,

I feel the same way. I’ve stopped worrying about making “expensive firewood” as @mattmcgrane said. Now I just enjoy the process of “making.” I tell people that I’m “making” and they inevitably ask “what?” I usually reply “sawdust” because it’s the act of taking tool in hand that gives me the joy I feel. I’m not really making anything right now. Just memories between me and Ben, my 8 year old son. That’s plenty.

Great find (again!!) Eddy,
Can you share some post-rehab pics? I found a quality tenon saw recently as well but I have not begun the rehab.
Cheers mate,
Wil
COYS! I know the seasons ended but heart is still broken after the epi8c collapse saw Arsenal leapfrog us at the end. 🙁I just rewatched Paul’s video on restoring a plane before setting to work on two No. 5 Stanleys I found recently. I use a No. 5 exclusively as I find a No. 4 too small in my hands. Seeing these two beauties come back to life with a little elbow grease made Saturday’s the time at the bench a wonderful way to waste a day.
Cheers lads,
Wil
PS COYS!
Wow! I am very grateful for the responses and words of encouragement.
Guys,
Thanks for the great advise and tremendous support. I’m going to buy the Pine for the Tool Chest at HD but go to the lumber yard for the “good” stuff as I get more confident in my projects.Cheers to my fellow Lifestyle Woodworkers! Here’s to always having a sharp blade and never needing a dustmask or earplugs in the woodshop.
Much thanks,
Wil
@chemical_cake – You’re correct!! I found the Davis Town Museum last night. The second line “Amherst, MS” through be for a bit because I thought the “MS” was for Mississippi as it is today but back then it was acceptable to refer to Massachusetts that way. So Yes, it is a J Kellogg. Thanks for he assist mate.
Cheers,
Wil
Meadowlands Flea Market??!!?? I haven’t heard about it. I’ll have to check it out. Is there website you can share?
@ Mark – My tool bug started over the Summer when I-
rediscovered
my love of woodworking. I actually got my first plane, an amazing No. 5, from the local hardware guy. He has an amazing display of antique tools in the front window. I’ll attach a pic someday. I told him I was starting to work wood with my son (6 y.o) and he walked right over to the display and handed me a gorgeous Stanley No. 5 to get me started. I personally find the 5 utilitarian given my stature ~ 6′ 4″. I use it for nearly everything. The 4 is too small in hand for me.
