Few joints are more satisfying to master than the sliding dovetail, but then too knowing that your hidden work builds into itself amazing longevity designed to last as long as wood will last. We can’t imagine anyone not enjoying creating this beautiful working system of joinery, given to us by the masters of old. The precision of the layout and using the various knifewalls is both satisfying and enriching, but more than that it is the guarantee we use to align our chisel and saw cuts to that preset of perfection.

Paul, I appreciate you showing us the “3 Joints” over and over again … I’m not being facetious, and I really appreciate this expansion on the housing dado joint. I hope to see stopped housing sliding dovetails in a heavier project — it’s nice here as an introduction, but I hope to also see it in a weightier project where structural integrity is more of a concern. Because I’d like to progress to it. I’ve already used your basic “3” in real-world projects that have nothing to do with your projects here, based on what I’ve learned from making your projects here. Hope I can also do that with the sliding dovetail. Best Regards.
