Robin,
This would be a great self build project if you have the time, tools and space to accomplish it. All the joinery you require has been covered by Paul’s first year lessons. I have a carpentry background so forgive me if I make this sound easy and I am being possibly presumptuous but if you have come through the course so far you have all the requisite skills in place. Fitting cabinets to a specific measured space usually means build to suit.
If you don’t have the time to do it or other preventive reasons that’s understandable. Faced with that scenario I personally would seek out a local cabinet makers shop. Most shops that do commercial renovations and refits have real wood cabinets and shelving units that came off of job sites and are still in very good condition. Most of them they simply discard. I have acquired inexpensive but nice cabinets in the past this way. This doesn’t necessarily help if you are fitting to required measurements.
Most inexpensive systems will be awful materials like veneered particle board, MDF and the like. If you build, stick to real wood or higher grade plywood and you won’t go wrong.
Hopefully some of the other participants will jump in with some better helpful ideas.
