Thank you all for your replies. Very much appreciated.
@fbjoey how come? 🙂 Could you please say a bit more about your Flott eggbeater? Could it be perhaps that you just don’t like the eggbeater style (I know lots of folks simply don’t like them)?
My current power drill is pretty much dead (batteries are toast). It is an older Dewalt 9.6v non-Lithium. I like a compact drill.
My biggest gripe about today’s consumer cordless drills is a wobbly chuck. My Dewalt wobbled like mad but I put up with it. I’ve been researching Amazon’s reviews on different compact models and apparently the wobbly chuck is an issue regardless of brand or price.
Don’t laugh 🙂 , but for smaller stuff (under 1/4″) I’ve been getting really good mileage out of THIS:
I paid like 7 USD for one at my local art supply store. I don’t think its precision for smaller stuff can be matched. It spins true (no wobble) and smooth. There is significant play along the axial direction but it really doesn’t affect precision. Plus I think you can shim most of it out, I just haven’t tried to yet. Worth owning one for sure.
So I was hoping to find a good eggbeater that will fit up to 3/8″ shaft size, and that would have more torque and weight over the Fiskar. I’d like to get a Miller Falls #2 or a 5, but I’m not so sure about buying these drills off Ebay anymore. I already got burned once. I bought one described as useable when it was an extremely worn out, rickety lump of coal. I concluded that I’d have to actually hold one in my hands before buying another. But there’s little chance of that happening where I live.
The search continues, I suppose! But let’s face it, that’s part of the fun.
