Fibre board plane hard board if you like.
Not used one or seen one being used but know of them.
Probably used in the 50’s and 60’s when everyone decided to cover up nice panel doors and balustrades with hardboard. I have been in quite a few places where I was renovating houses in the East End of London. It used to wind me up covering up the nice joinery.
Love the old books.

A little while ago I bought a set of Carpentry & Joinery six volume set By Richard Greenhalagh printed about 1953.The books are a little tatty but all the content is there. In mint condition they go for £100. I got my ones for under £13 including postage. 😀 Very informative and show a lot of traditional carpentry & and Joinery methods.
I remember A carpenter I worked with showed me a set of these books when I was quite a young lad. It seems quite a long time ago. 🙁
