I did do as you’ve mentioned. The tear out on the outside of the bead was not bad, however due to this being white oak, it was pretty bad on the beading itself. I resorted to doing it by hand with a gouge. Looks awful since I’m not a great carver. I attached the picture with my carving and a generic stock photo of beading on a cabinet. The cabinet one demonstrates beading done by cutting with the grain and mitering the pieces to create a seamless box. No cross grain cutting needed. But I am not joining multiple pieces so I was trying to find an example of how others have done what I am trying for. If the answer is to just be a better carver, I can accept that but some examples of techniques would be very helpful to me.
