Hi Greg
Your drawing had me completely bamboozled when I made my stool. Fortunately, I was able to succeed by carefully following all of Paul Sellers’ measurements.
I found this thread in the forums and got some basic understanding of your approach, and I have read By Hand and Eye now. All this means that I have gone down a rabbit hole of proportional design, and having some fun with geometry.
However, I have one burning question: why do you divide the height of the stool by five? I have seen in the classic orders part of By Hand and Eye that dividing the overall height by five is significant, but why? Why five? And why is it D?
The “D” in the Doric order in By Hand and Eye is one eighth of the height of the column, which does not seem to directly relate to the overall height. I am confused.
