My question is about the same issue: face grain v long grain expansion, but not about the dovetail joints. It’s about fitting a solid wood top in when making a dovetailed jewellery box or similar. (I know about plywood in grooves for drawer bottoms, but this has to look good, top and bottom). The solid top, not being plywood, if it is flush with the sides any face grain movement will either try to burst open the side joints or shrink to form a gap or a split in the top. What is the best solution to this? Thank you!
