Thanks for the video. It amazes me how what was old is “new” again. I hope I’m not highjacking the thread, it isn’t my intent. If I am just yell at me and I’ll go back to my corner and lurk.
I found a book through Google from 1909, Educational Woodworking for Home and School, By Joseph Charles Park. In his book he discusses a variety of tools, some power tools, and even some exercises. Want a wooden coat hanger or ink blotter? He has those projects there for you.
He has about a paragraph on the scraper itself and the last line of the paragraph made me chuckle, especially after seeing this thread and Paul and Joseph’s videos. “With the improved block planes which we now have there is little use for cabinet scrapers”. I’m sure if that last statement were true, Paul would have used a block plane and not a scraper plane on the coffee table.
Regardless, the book is a neat look back in time and I’m glad to know scrapers are basically useless 😉
