I spent a mere two hours to tune and sharpen some new chisels I bought using Paul’s method. Crikey!! Those are some sharp chisels now.
Without wishing to sound a bit strange, I enjoy sharpening, and have used various methods and equipment. Most recently, I have used Norton oil-stones for my kitchen knives etc, and found they worked well, but I never really got the hang of them. I used them without oil for a less messy approach; I think there are mixed opinons on whether to use them dry or not, but I found they worked okay dry.
This latest endeavour with the diamond stones and ‘charged’ leather strop (which I had never used before) has given me incredibly sharp chisels. The steel filaments just brush away from the diamond plates as well which is very convenient. Chrominum oxide was a bit messy, but I’ll have the rags and cloths ready next time!!
Now I just have to make something…
