We are about to release the next online video series on chopping dovetails and have several projects included in the training that will address all of the issues surrounding through (common) and half-lap dovetailing techniques. This is to prepare us for the tool chests in the near future.
On these inside corners I simple angle my chisel, usually a 1/2″ one, so the the corner of the chisel, the sharpest point on the cutting edge, follow s the inside corner of the pin or and tail recess. It’s not complicated at all, but whenever one starts to try to describe it it suddenly becomes complicated. Also, another issue entirely but one that several affects your work, cheaper chisels tend to have thicker edges to the chisels. On finer chisels the edge itself tapers to a really fine edge near to the corner of the cutting edge. That’s a feature I have been enjoying about the Sorby chisels I now use.
