Here are some photo updates. Rust removal is finished except for the “to be lapped” surfaces. Plane body primed with Rust-oleum Rust Reformer.
Stripped the finish of the handle and knob. I refinished them with some Watco Fruitwood Danish Oil. Now I am spending a lot of time flattening the back of the blade iron. As old as this plane is, I do not think this was ever done for it before.
Still deliberating on what paint to use for the bed/body/bottom … (What is the proper term for big heavy iron part of a bench plane anyway?) Should I go bold with hammered copper or fire engine red? Or, should I play it safe with hammered black or black enamel?
