hi all can anyone point me in the right direction i’m looking for a video i’m sure Paul did where he had a cracked panel i’m not sure if it was a table top or a chest side but he split it and repaired it,as i have one to do i thought i’d watch the video again before i did it but i can’t find it , thanks in advance .
31 December 2014 at 1:07 pm #122862Hi Eddy.
A couple of ways i can think of.
1. Use sellotape underneath side Then epoxy resin two pack glue to fill gap put let resin go hard use a scraper to remove excess. May have to do in two stages from each side.2. Use PVA or similar put glue along top edge off split then use a vacuum cleaner underneath to suck glue into split clamp up and close split. It may be worth to see if split will close first on a dry run with clamps before going any further.
hope helps
happy New year31 December 2014 at 1:26 pm #122865Coffee Table episode 12 Paul I think mentions filling Knots with epoxy resin.
31 December 2014 at 6:58 pm #122894cheers Mark all soted now i split it totaly and planed it ,so now the top is 30mm narrower ,lets hope its wide enough when it goes back on haha ,i was able to see why it split ,it was made from recycled wood and the original maker had left some metal ie parts of the original nails in it and as this top is being used in a cafe it get a lot of spills and cleaning so after just two years use it split (thankfuly it was my scrub plane that found the nail not my #4) lesson learned . All i need now is a couple of longer aluminium clamps oh well screwfix it is in the morning start the year as i mean to go on buying tools . Happy new year everyone
31 December 2014 at 7:09 pm #122895Best of luck with the repair, do Screwfix sell the aluminium cramps Paul recommends , I have always got mine from Axminster just looked on their site and it does not look like the stock them any more.

David Axminster still do the ally sash cramps/clamps but the picture is down for them on the site.
Sorry I still use Cramp that’s what I was taught that’s how it is written in my text books from college. I also have 6 volume set of Carpentry and joinery by Richard Greenhalgh printed just after WWII.
Very interesting set of books that also say cramps.
Shows wooden type planes as well as Norris infill planes with adjuster and without, transitional plane basically bailey system put on a block of wood, and bailey and bedrock metal planes which we are more accustomed to.
Great stuff -
