I live in east Belgium, just at the German border, and I cannot seem to find a supplier for quality hardware in my area. Obi and similar stores never have the quality stuff I want, but I prefer to look at hardware in person, hold it in my hand. It’s easier to imagine it on a project. Does anybody in my area know where I might find such a store? And if not, what are my options for online retailers? Any suggestions are very much appreciated. I’m also looking to find shellac, which has proven to be difficult.
ThanksCaleb
Hello Caleb,
for shellac (no own experiences yet) I knew the maker and/or seller “Kremer Pigmente”: http://www.kremer-pigmente.com
Their site led to a shop in Bruxelles – “Schleiper”: http://www.schleiper.com/eshopexpress/articles/PEASHL0300–peacock-shellac-lemon-in-flakes-300g?lang=en
For hardware like screws I like to buy at “Berliner Schrauben”: http://www.berlinerschrauben.deHope that helps,
E.

I live in Belgium too (West-Vlaanderen) and indeed there aren’t much shops for quality hardware. I assume by hardware you mean hinges, locks, handles and stuff? I buy nickel-plated hinges at my local hardware store. For all the rest, I order online from a dutch web shop:

I’ve been there once, and they have an amazing store. But it’s a long drive. They also have shellac in flakes:

I dissolve them in alcohol myself. It usually takes a night to dissolve. You can choose the strength but I usually go with a 2 pound cut, which is more or less 24 g/100 ml.Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Stijn -
