Hi,
Let me show You two 24 mm wide chisels I have got. One (“Lux”) comes from “Obi” home depot store, and the second one is from Lidl Supermarket (same set as ALDI set of four chisels). No doubts they came from the same German supply chain of goods, but the Obi chisel is of much higher quality, with nicely grounded, wide tapered sides – but in the other hand this single chisel costs more than two times the price of ALDI/Lidl set.
I wonder if I could safely remove handle from the Lidl chisel and install to it that 4 mm chisel I found as a bargain. How to start with it? Also, if it is possible I could do the same with 13mm chisel from that set and replace it with one 14mm Staley chisel I own, and it is actually a “frankenchisel” 😀
It will make pretty consistent-looking, nice set of five frankenchisels (24-18-14-8-4).
BTW on Mr Sellers’s videos you can see very similar chisels, but with removed end collars, and re-turned on a lathe (?), or spokeshaved handles. I wonder if I could know how it’s made.
