I saw this saw vise on Lie-Nielsen’s Youtube video and I felt like making it. It is some scrap pine I had laying about and I glued some cleats on the top and bottom of both faces. Glued some leather on the bottom for hinges, and that was it. A simple 20 minute project. Don’t ask for measurements. For stuff like this I don’t really plan anything out and just go with what I have. I should probably be more disciplined in that area.
I didn’t notice the board bending, but I haven’t actually used it yet. I thought about screwing the leather on, but I wasn’t sure if it would tear around the hole. I just used hide glue, so if it doesn’t hold I can easily revisit it later.
Hi Jotato. Nice quick saw vise. If it works, it’s good enough in my book. I made one very similar to that, but with metal hinges. The one thing I added later on was a large 45° chamfer on the top outer edges so that I could get closer access without hitting my fingers on the edge.
