Paul’s example…
Keepsake Box by Paul Mumford
This little box is made from recycled Australian Red Cedar with the Kumiko panel made using 4x3mm Tasmanian Oak strips. The frame of the Kumiko (jigumi) was constructed first and the lid built around it. with the asanoha design added after. The main box joinery is based on Paul’s “Bread Stow” project using screws filed flat to the timber surface. The finish is blonde shellac and cabinet makers applied with steel wool.wax. #woodworkingmasterclasses

I made the box out of some poplar and the cutting board from some cherry I had leftover from another project. I wanted to practice my dovetails so I changed up the box a little.

I used black locust firewood. Quartersawn on bandsaw . Wish I had found bigger screwheads.

The main box is salvaged silky oak from a ~90 year old bed frame. The board is made from turpentine.
Bread Stow by Kurt Schultz
Salvaged from a desk on the side of the road. Maple top, oak sides and bottom. Maple came from the desk top that I ripped down. Oak came from the the drawer sides that were ripped into slats. No access to solid brass screws, so I used carpet tacks to give it a bit of 17th C New England look to it.
Bread Stow by Hayden Pascal
The wood is sungkai, finished with shellac and beeswax. A present for my wife.

2nd bread stow. This one is for parents. Upcycled oak and maple from desk draws and top respectively.
Bread Stow by Bryan Donovan
Made this out of quarter-sawn white oak. Not many medullary rays in the sides, but nice ones in the lid.
