I used mahogany and oak. Then use superglue and wax to finished it out. (Mr. Sellers mentioned this type of finish in the comments of the video)
The Christmas star is made from cherry and maple. It might be a little bit over 8 inches long.

Two of many 5pt stars made to use as gift tags. Various materials, pine, cherry, walnut, mahogany, etc. All about 6″ across. Finished by dipping into bucket of home-made oil/varnish mix and left to drip-dry.
