Spoonology by Gavin Sykes
The timber is Coastal Sheoak, native to Western Australia , the piece being branch material from a tree I felled in a customers backyard that was set aside to air dry for later use. The main trunk I think will prove to have some very nice material for larger projects. The grain is quite dense and a little interlocking but rewarding with its figure. The only gouge I had at hand was about seven mm but being inspired I made do and shaped a scraper from a piece of offcut construction grade steel which worked surprisingly well. I experimented with the handle to see if something more ergonomic for an elderly person would make any difference, so far the response has been positive.
