Wooden Plane Gallery
Welcome to the Floor Lamp community gallery. You can watch Paul’s introduction to the project here.
Here is Paul’s example…
Wooden Plane by Ian Lambert
Made from recycled beech plane body and O1 tool steel iron. The iron was home hardened and tempered which turn out to be much easier to do than I first thought it would be.

Poor Man’s Rebate Plane by L. Juday
This is the first plane I’ve made. The wedge is ugly, the chisel is rusty, but boy does it work! I used a section of an old wooden level as the plane body, not sure of the wood. Maybe rosewood? Also pictured is the poor man’s router used in the project. Thanks so much to WWMC team for putting such great info out there!
Wooden Jointer Plane by Chris Cooper
Unable to match Paul’s skill in squaring up edges, I built a jointer-length plane (18 inches) out of Padauk and a Hock plane blade, then attached a white oak fence using screw knobs and brass screw inserts. After building this, I got rid of my Delta benchtop jointer. It turns out this is easier to use than the machine and more consistent. It has been indispensable; I use it constantly.

Wooden plough plane, made from reclaimed beech from an old table
Wooden Hand Plane by jeff gose
Oak handrail now holds a Greaves 32mm blade. mber shellac and a light wax. Shaped oak knob for my transitional plane.
Wooden Plane by Rafi
My first plane! The body is Mahoe (Hibiscus Elatus) with a Martinique Prickly Ash (Zanthoxylum Martinicense) wedge. The blade is upcycled from a box store stamped steel block plane. These are native species in Puerto Rico where we call them Majó and Cenizo.
Wooden Plane by John Moe
Paul’s blog inspired me to make this from an old broken #5 that was included with a bedrock 607 I picked up on Craigslist. I used birch from my own yard (I have used it for 3 other wood planes which I have made.) I changed Paul’s design just a bit because I wanted to keep the knob and tote from the old plane together.
Wooden Plane by Sharon Casa
I made this plane in preparation for the Shaker-style bench project. The iron was from an unused block plane and the wood was from a firewood log–spalted (fungus eaten) maple. I never used a wooden plane before, so this was a revelation to me. I tested it on a 3/4″ thick piece of pine. It worked like a champ, despite my side pieces not having precise housing depths.

Wooden Plane by Sebastiaan
Router plane – inspired by the latest videos but slightly different (following old example I saw on Ebay). Used old beech chair frame for the wood, hence the inlay (mahogany I think) in the old matting groove. Used a loose inset to house the blade, not the prettiest but works, could have different ones for different size blades, I suppose. Connector nut drilled through and tapped for depth adjustment.

I live abroad so converting a 78 to a scrub is not cheap due to postage and export costs. Made a scrub plane from some beech, oak and plum scraps based on Paul’s small plane. It is very comfortable, works like a charm and is nice and light.
Wooden Plane by Hans Zwakenberg
This is the rebate plane I built to video instructions by Paul. All wooden parts are of Bangkirai. The O1-iron still needs some minor trimming to final width, heat treating and sharpening/honing. As I still have some O1-steel as well as some Bangkirai left, I started a next tool making project.
