Workbench by Tom Funk
Like most of the other ones in this gallery the inspiration for this bench was Paul Seller’s video taped in his garden in his garden. The actual design came from a book published originally in 1908 written by Paul N. Hasluck titled “The Handyman’s Guide”. I did use a dedicated Mortimer to cut the mortises. I cut the tenons and dovetails by hand. The aprons and top are hard maple. The base is Douglas fir. The aprons and top are hard maple. The base is clear Douglas fir. The vise jaw on the end is European Beechwood. The dimensions are wider than normal because I need for it to serve as an assembly table also. The bench height is taller than normal because I wanted to be able to move it on the casters. There may be another solution for that, however. So far I am comfortable with the height.
