I have another related question for Paul as well. I read in an older book recently, a section about woods for outdoor use. It was mentioned that the trees should be cut in the winter when the tree is dormant, I assume that is because of the lack of presence of the sap in the tree. Good use of a worktop nice job.
Beech is not he prettiest wood in the world but it is nice to use. The grain very close together so can get nice shavings on end grain as well.
Beech used a lot in upholstered Items as it will take tacks, upholstery nails, and staples quite close to edge with out splitting as well as being pretty strong and stable. -
