Ryan, Most breadboard end tables I’ve seen don’t have through tenons. I did a quick internet search and this link has the scenario that I envision (http://www.woodmagazine.com/woodworking-tips/techniques/joinery/breadboard/). It has a single, very wide tenon that gets pegged into the breadboard ends. The outer peg holes are elongated to account for wood movement. I’d have to guess that the outside mortise holes should be a little wide for the outside tenons to move, too.
Now, a few months ago Paul made the “occasional table” that has an unusual top with just one breadboard end. On that table (if memory serves), the three tenons were through tenons and they seemed pretty tight. I don’t recall if Paul discussed wood movement, but he probably did.
