I have just used standard construction pine. I used 45×220 and ripped the beams for lamination on the table saw, all the rest is only done with hand tools.
Paul just started his new free video series on a workbench. My top is a bit wider. My toolwell is constructed differently as well. The toolwell is 45 thick but with housing dados that slide over the legs and a bevel so it looks less thick and aligns with the table top. The toolwell is connected to the apron and screwed into the legs, similar to the tabletop, a rabbet in the table top allows it to contract or expand. I also installed a veritas inset vice so I installed my legs a few cm further from the edge than Paul does ( the inset vice requires a hole in the top and otherwise the legs are in the way) . All the rest is similar. Finish is osmo oil.
I screwed a beam against the wall with spacers at the ends at the same height as the bench (99cm), so there a small gap towards the beam in which I can slide my saws at the back. I think I prefer that over having them hanging at the front apron. Let me know if you have any other questions?
