Be careful the repair kit isn’t for the 78 Stanley is currently making. I believe those planes are metric.
I found that out when I bought a 78 cheap at an antique mall just for the rod and fence and found it didn’t fit on the older plane.
The original part is whitworth 3/16 -24.
, which might still be available in the UK. Check British motorcycle shops.
In the US, UNC 10-24 shouldered thumbscrews are a working replacement. I see them on EBay for $9.50 for a pack of 10 with free shipping. The same size works on record 043 and 044 planes and other Stanley planes ( 180,190, 289, 50, etc.)
The same size works for the fence rods parts on these planes that have fences.
And my local well stocked ACE hardware has them.
Original parts go on EBay for $20-25. ( free shipping) There are tons for sale when I just checked. They all look like a derusting bath is warranted.
A set with a depths stop goes for $50-$55 .
I see a dealer I often use in the US offers them on EbayUK, but you will get knicked for about £15 shipping.
