Thanks for your help, but I’m not talking about trying to sharpen the hardpoint teeth, what I meant was to cut along the full length of the saw plate maybe 10mm above the original teeth to get a new clean edge on the plate, then cut in completely new teeth as shown in one of Paul’s videos (but cutting off the original teeth rather than flattening them with a file).
As far as I can see the hardening process (induction hardening?) is a localised process which only affects the teeth, but the saw plate is, I believe, not hardened?
I just wondered if anyone had tried that at all – I know I could buy a new saw for about £5 to £10 but I strive to minimise landfill waste and even if the steel is recyclable I would rather re-use before recycling if at all practicable.
