    I figured I’d stop lurking and show some of my boxes. You have all inspired me, and now I can’t find enough shop time.

    One box is a chisel box with a fitted lid made of cherry. Several family and friends have asked me how I could leave something so nice in the garage filled with chisels. Hopefully it’s the beginning of a trend.

    Second box is the shaker candle box from Paul’s book/DVD made of pine. I’m going to give it to my daughter to store her crayons. It will soon likely be painted pink or purple.

    Until recently, I’ve had a love/hate relationship with dovetails, and decided it was a joint I would never do. I had made several failed attempts to learn on my own, and finally took a local class that resulted in even worse dovetails. When I watched Paul, something clicked. I can’t even say what it was. Now my dovetails are tight. In fact, now I need to make them not so tight. I found out the hard way that if you compress the leading edge of a tail too much, it will fracture and leave a little hole. (I can send a pict showing you what mean if you’re interested.)

    Great work, Jason. Really pleased you’ve managed to get the hang of dovetails. It’s a great feeling when it clicks! Keep making them and you’ll get even better and quicker.

    That’s some lovely tidy work there Jason. Shame to paint that crayon box but sometimes you can’t fight the power of pink in a daughter 😀

    Thanks everyone for your kind words.

    @nikond80
    , truth be known, I’m not completely in love with the form of the candle box and it doesn’t really fit my wife’s decor. I built the box knowing that it would store crayons, and that it would be painted. If paul can paint dovetails, I can too. But now that it’s made, I kinda like it. I’ll probably make a second box and not paint it.

    Regards!

    @edfly give it another go and show us how you do. If I could do it finally, you can too. I tried to post to the gallery, but I didn’t see a way to upload from my iPhone. I’m not opposed to Joseph or Phil putting it in there.
