A very good friend of ours is graduating from law school in a couple of weeks. My wife decided to purchase her a reservoir pen and ink as a gift, and I decided to build a box to house them. Paul’s expert instruction really helped me out here; I followed the instructions for box number two–the sliding lid box.
Our friend’s favorite color is purple, so the box shell is purple and the top and bottom are left natural. The finish is three coats of thinned Zinsser blonde shellac with wax applied per Paul’s method.
Photo follows.

Well done David. This is a very nice presentation box.
What product did you use to achieve the purple?
Thank you all for the comments; very much appreciated.
@David R. The pen is a Namiki Falcon and the ink is Pelican 4001 Brilliant Brown.
@Greg I used Transtint #6026 (purple) alcohol soluble dye mixed in the following ratio: 1 tsp. dye in 5 Tbsp. denatured alcohol. Caution: Don’t let your brush get away from you like I did; my bench, wall and some of my tools now have some nice purple polka dots. 😀
