I’m looking for some hinges to finish off a toolchest and some dovetailboxes.
My local options in the Netherlands are to put it nicely not great.I’ve been looking around and found a lot of hinges on Amazon, they are packaged in packs of 25-100. 4
Does anybody have any experience with these cheap hinges?
If anybody know of any good source for hinges in the EU, please be so kind to mention it.
Joost.

No experience of precisely these hinges, but I have a negative one from inexpensive “brass” hinges offered by Amazon. They turned out to be gilded and not solid brass.
Brusso delivers to the Netherlands. Prices may at first be offsetting, but contrary to most their hinges are all created equal.
Niche Locks has been a nice experience.

The Brusso hinges Sven mentioned look nice but are way out of my hobby budget. Nichelocks looks like a nice site unfortunately buying from the UK has become really expensive since the Brexit due to shipping and import tariffs.
I did managed to find a local store called baptist that sells the type of hinges Barry mentioned for a decent price, they are probably not full brass but plated. Just wondering does that actually matter? Does wood react badly to steel/iron?
I just keep these marked in my order lists, 20 extrude brass hinges, and get an oder when every the price drops. The cost ranges from $19 to $100 US. When you buy at the low end it is a dollar a hinge for solid brass hinges and screws.

4 January 2022 at 2:45 pm #743405I have also used these hinges but had issues with the Screw Heads they provided snapping off and I did drill guide holes. Out of the 24, greater than 6 snapped. It may have been my technique and not a case of defective screws but it was consistent behavior for what it is worth…
Going to check out Niche and Brusso for certain.
4 January 2022 at 4:08 pm #743412To reduce the risk of snapping Brusso brass hinges come with a steel screw to be used prior to the brass ones. It has worked for me, also for other brands of hinges.
A photo of three hinges: adding support to that not all hinges are created equal. The left two ones come from a batch I bought over the counter for around $8 a pair. The one to the right I think is closer to Brusso quaility, and were $15 a pair, without screws.

The video makes going with Brusso a lot more defendable, and the follow up one provided me with a lot of useful stuff on hinge fitting.

London, UK; Boston, MA19 January 2022 at 4:52 pm #745456Thank you so much Sven-Olof. I’m UK based and watched Matt’s video after one of your posts. I have not got the time or patience to be faffing on tuning cheap hinges. I’ve a lifetime’s experience doing stuff like that. Can you recommend some reliable UK outlets for brass fittings. I’m going to need to invest soon. 👍
Regards, Terry.

Here’s a link to a UK company providing Brusso impeccable hinges. I’ve never been anything but happy with either.
