This WS Tools A5 was manufactured about 20 minutes from where I used to live in the UK. From my research it was probably made in the late forties or early fifties. I picked it up on EBay from a seller in Quebec, Canada.
It was not in bad shape really, it just needed a little gentle restoration. The iron and cap iron are by Record so it is not totally original but I wanted to use the plane not have it sitting on a shelf.
I had to re-grind the edge of the iron square and then I sharpened it according to Paul Sellers’ method. Once tuned the plane makes a wonderful sound across the wood. I really like the brass lever cap and the way the handle and knob are set off by the blue paint. Another one to add to my collection.
