Hi!
I lucked into a dozen antique planes at an estate sale and the need a little help; the blades are in desperate need of sharpening. That’s normally not an issue but half of them have the edge face on the interior of the curve. Does anyone have ideas on the best way to do that?
Pics included for reference
Flatten the backs on your usual stone.
Then:
1. Set up the plane and use it to cut a profile, power through it you have to it doesn’t have to be pretty.
2. Sand down the wood, apply honing compound or wrap it in sandpaper (depending on how rough the iron is)
3. then put the iron in the plane and make it protrude slightly.
4. Use the wood with compound / sandpaper to run across the plane sole and iron. Protect the sole with tape.
Paul has a video on this somewhere.
Darren.
The pictures show normal bevel down edges.
I fail to understand the concern.
