What is the angle of the front face I was wondering if it could be a chisel / plane honing guide?? I guess the angle would want to be about 30 degrees
I believe this is called a miter shooting clamp. Per Garrett Hack’s “The Handplane Book”, it is used to trim miters. The board to be trimmed is clamped between the two arms of the clamp so that the miter extends just proud of the 45° end. The just plane off the miter using the angled end of the clamp as a reference surface.
