I made a small bedside table with two drawers. It’s more of an exercise or prototype really. Valuable experience gained.
The shelves are through dadoes, the top is fixed with wooden pegs. The upper drawer sits on a rail which is embedded in the sides and the back is inserted in a recess. Finish is milk paint and shellac.
This are the first drawers and first half-blind dovetails I ever made and turned out okay, I think.
There are a few things I would do differently next time:
* not using paulownia wood (very hard on the edge tools due to its silicate content or so I heard, a bit brittle and not easy to plane)
* using stopped dadoes for the shelves
* using dovetails for the top
* applying a few more coats of milk paint (I ran out of white at that time)
* adding an arch to the side boards bottom to get four distinct “legs”
* full sized drawer back, so it doesn’t drop when opened

Hi David
Afraid pictures are not working It has been reported
I look forward to seeing your bedside table
I thought Resi fixed it.
At one stage I thought about using paulownia for my clocks so I went to see this bloke who is a surfboard maker as he was selling them cheap at the time and I found this timber to be too light that can easily be marred not much different to western red ceder. For surfboards it was perfect.
