We have nice summer days in Toronto +40C.I’m using rough lamber for all my projects and preparing my stock by hand.No room for machines in my small room. Toady I decide to flatten my bench top…Well that was hot, timing 2hr include (2 bade sharpening, 1 coat of water base finish).I don’t know, every time when I see how Paul using his unflatten bench top my heart full of respect I’m not in this level)eh.. but now I’m ready for tool chest project))

HaHa, Serhiy at the most I sleep about 3 hours a night. I have been like that all my adult life. I will be at the gym for 06:00 back for 07:30 breakfast and on the computer till about 09:30, then in the workshop / room, and potter about all day.

I live alone, I have no family left so it fills my days, my nights will watch a movie I have about six thousand to choose from, HaHa then computer looking for project plans, and anything woodworking.

So thats me buddy it might be boring to others, but I love it. 😉

Sorry for getting so off topic. 🙂

    Hi Serhiy
    It looks flat, good job!
It looks like you have been using boards of different length when you did glue up for bench top. Just for my information, is there any particular reason for that?

Ken this post already in off topic section))and it’s not boring buddy)

    Thanks Dave.

Sinisa thanks for that question)) Well I have to start from the introduction. It was 2-3 years ago when I just started my journey in woodworking world. I didn’t know Paul than. I found one blog http://www.galoototron.com (Brian nice guy) and take the idea of building this kind of work bench.I live in Toronto in apartment building and my shop is the small room.I know how hard it is to build work bench if you don’t have a bench. When I was off from my job(rotational shifts) and wanted to planing my boards outside it always raining or some thing else..so I plained my lumber inside. I don’t have any work mate table or something else, so I used all what I can. I still have a monthly budget for wood working spending. To laminate bench top you need clamps and I have only 3 heavy clamps and 3 light. So I decide to buy bench top( from hated store IKEA) I paid 60$ for solid wood birch counter top, size 25″ by 48″(I just check they don’t have this on the stock)Bench top was 1 1/2 thick so I cant use heavy steal vices and I have to flatten bench top once per year.I will rebuild my bench when time come.I will build Paul’s style work bench with proper heights.May be I can save base we will see.))

Thanks for explanation. I guess we all use space and tools we have and find a way to adopt to that 🙂

    That’s pretty cool Serhiy!

I guess those yoga sessions paid off, eh? If I tried to fold up my body like that under my bench, I would be making a trip to the chiropractor!

The bench looks great, nice job!

Nice piece of smoothing Serhiy, I hope I can get my bench as smooth and flat. I’m not sure I could stand 2 hours of planing in 40 degree heat it’s bad enough here in the north of England 28 degrees. Good luck with the rest of the build.
