I’m currently milling cherry boards for a narrow table. The top would be 75″x15″x1″ (currently two boards of around 8″ wide), and I was planning on making breadboard ends, with two through tenons (kind of like Paul’s cutting board). Thing is that one of the board has a check going at one end, around 1/8″ wide and 2″ long. The split has not moved at all since dimensioning the wood, and I was thinking I could make the breadboard end despite this default, by excluding it from the tenon. Has anyone tried this? Would the joint be weak/difficult to make? Should I just cut a few inches from the length and be done?
I also thought about a bow tie to keep the split in check, but it would not fit my design for the table…
Quick edit: I was planning on filling the crack with epoxy once the breadboard end would be done.
