It was the burnishing tool I was using that sucked. Just paid a few bucks for a Hock burnishing did, gave a few simple swipes to my card scraper and it works like I’ve only dreamed until now. Glad to know it wasn’t me!
Had a related problem! Made a guide block of 2” by 2” poplar and bandsawed a slot in it about 80% thru the piece. I slide my card scraper into the slot and use it as a honing guide. Guarantees I don’t tip the scrapper and round the corner.
