Chisel edge crumbling

I’ve done that with a plane blade. Where’d that red spot on my work come from? ?
I think that the extreme edge getting polished, but not the main face is just fine. I stop at that point. I don’t notice it getting any sharper if I continue stropping. The edge gets more pressure because the leather compresses slightly, bouncing back just after the edge. The danger is of the edge rounding over or ‘dubbing’ from these motions. I stop stropping when I see the side of the edge becoming a mirror. I give it a few swipes on the strop often to prolong the time between honing.
