I looked at many, many designs for clamp racks. I tried to find one that wouldn’t take up much wall space (I don’t have floor space for a cart-type) but could hold 20-30 clamps. I eventually found one that was really simple to construct and seemed to fit the bill nicely.
I had some 18mm ply left over from a different shop project so used that. I chopped a housing for each of the horizontal pieces, which I did by hand – there were many splinters! Ply seems to chop easily but it’s really difficult to get a smooth base to the housing – not hugely important for a clamp rack though. Once glued into the housing, I put a couple of screws through the back into each horizontal piece to give it some extra strength.
The rack is 16 1/2″ wide, 10″ deep, and holds 24 clamps. I built it to hold 30 but had to saw off the last rack as it ended up just a touch too wide to go into the space between the windows. If I end up getting another 6 clamps I’ll hang the one I cut off somewhere!
Here’s the post I found with the original design: http://www.rpwoodwork.com/blog/2014/11/30/rack-for-parallel-jaw-clamps/
