Using the coping saw has been one my more disappointing skills, but thanks to the Knew Concepts I’m doing clearly better.
This perhaps futuristic looking variant, I think is ample proof of that there is room for, and better still, an interest in improving hand tools. The frame design not only gives rigidity, it also keeps the weight down, and aids in keeping the saw line. The lever release is much quicker than unscrewing the handle, and when tightened will bring the blade back to the same tension.
Altering the blade angle is perhaps a bit slow, but at least I get it right now.
Well Done Knew Concepts

27 April 2016 at 2:14 pm #136755Nor can I, but but this one allows me to take a cut without immediately ruining dovetails, covings, and skirtings.
27 April 2016 at 9:00 pm #136759I bought one of the original saw’s myself and like it very much. I didn’t care for the price but at least I can saw with it compared to some of the lesser expensive brands. That is one of the new tools I bought along with the Veritas small plough plane, everything else are old before WWII.

28 April 2016 at 11:44 am #136766Some disheartening early experiences with today’s mass production, and no knowledge of fettling, led me to the “ready-to-use-from-the-box” tools. Mainly, I accept their prices, but at times I think that some innovation would be welcome; just as Knew demonstrates with their saws. Perhaps modern materials can do good for the straightness of backsaws? How about – and please forgive the ‘heresy’ – a laser line from the handle of a handsaw, to show any deviation from the cut line?
@sojansson, the saw you ask for has been made at one point. I have not seen it in a while. Vertias and LN makes a back saw with a modern material spine. There is a some invention in hand tools going on, it just seem a lot if it is in the wrong space, or looking at the wrong problem.
2 May 2016 at 8:06 pm #136859Thanks, especially for the information on the Lie-Nielsen saws. I think my PAX ones can do with some comparing.
