Welcome! / Forums / Project Series / Dovetail Boxes / Cutting the tails
This morning I went out to buy the timber for making the boxes I bought some 1/2″ and 1/4″ boards of Afromosia ( That was what the timber supplier had I have never used it before ) and a length of 5″ by 1/2′ Redwood . I thought I would make the first box in Redwood.
I then set about cutting out the sides and ends , I then started cutting the tails, it was only as I was cutting the tails in the last piece that I realised I should have cut tails in 2 of the pieces not 4 . Never mind a bit more practice re-making the 2 end pieces , glad I did not kick off with the Afromosia
Well done David, timber suppliers in my location stock nothing like that. Afromosia looks a nice timber.
Hi Ken
I use Bodells in Leigh, they are just a regular timber mechant but they do stock some hard woods. Up to now I have only bought softwood (Redwood ) They will provide PAR in any finish size you require and they are cheaper than the big DIY shops. The Afromosia I have is vey not dark it is a very pale yellow .
Hi David
Thanks buddy, once I get this workbench finished, I will look around for a good timber merchant. Having no transport these days dose not help, all the timber for the bench was carried on my shoulder for two and a half miles, trip after trip, good job I still workout. 🙂
