So I’ve had this plane about 2 years. I was interested I doing some to ge and groove doors and have done 3 so far but today it was acting up hkgettong clogged on the one side. Chips getting caught between the blade lever claps and the rail on the outside R blade. I kept going as I’d just sharpened and it worked ok after clearing the jams. Only 4 boards to go so I took a break and had a look at the problem. Too.much space between the clamps and the body letting chips get in. The part needs to be removed filed flat and replaced with a new pin. This would eliminate the gap. But because I’m always in a hurry I tried to bend it…..stupid and I know better… I have no excuse. it broke the toe off. Now I have 3/4 of a job done and would have to resort to the saw or router to make the grooves and tongues. So I put then blades back in and it actually held and didnt clog anymore so I continued.. on the next side the cut went through a knot and the blade on the head side split down the middle. Now it’s a parts plane.

26 July 2019 at 12:57 pm #593509Thanks for the suggestion I can actually get tool steel from place not far from me but the real problem is the broken clamp that holds the blade. The blade broke because it was being held too far from the cutting edge.
27 July 2019 at 1:54 am #593709really going to miss that #48 but I’m leary of eBay ones. lie Neilson has an improved version. had to set up the shaper to finish this door every piece was a different size. that was the freedom I had with the plane, had to make 2 setups for each board. this door was supposed to be smooth too and the only tool I have makes a chamfer on the groove side. For the cost of new cutter for the shaper, it would almost pay for the Lie Nielson
27 July 2019 at 3:14 am #593731I missed that in the photo. Try some parts guys on ebay. Greatcatalogue (probably the biggest), perrys-tools-parts, westcoastoldtoolsandparts, and nhplaneparts. Contact them and they will let you know if they have the parts for your plane or can be on the lookout. Good luck.
